May 28, 2018 - Jul 31, 2018; Weekdays; 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
City crews have begun the road construction along Alexander Street from Carrall Street to Hawks Avenue in May 2018 with anticipated completion in summer 2018. This project will connect to existing protected bike lanes on Carrall Street and the Powell Street Overpass.
City crews are currently working on the Maple Tree Square (by Gassy Jack) for paint eradication. Traffic delays will be expected at the intersection of Powell St and Carrall St/ Carrall St and Alexander St during working hours.
This project will involve the following intersection modification on the following locations:
• Columbia Street north of Powell Street will be changing from one-way northbound to two-way. There will be some changes on the intersection, including new traffic signal poles and heads and new sign and paint;
• Altering the intersection of Alexander Street and Main Street including extension of curb bulge at the southwest corner of Alexander Street and Main Street, new traffic signal buttons and installation of traffic barriers (concrete medians and bollards) east of Main Street on Alexander Street; and
• Extension of the existing protected westbound bikeway along Powell Street to continue onto Hawks Avenue. There will be some changes on the roadway including new curb bulge at southeast corner of Powell Street and Hawks Avenue, catch basin relocation at the southeast corner of Powell St and Hawks Avenue northbound and modification to existing traffic pole locations to accommodate the curb bulge install.
Traffic along Alexander St will be reduced and traffic diversions will be in effect.
Street parking in and around construction zones will be temporarily removed and will be normalized when it is safe to do so. The City will endeavour to provide as much residential parking as possible after working hours.
Residents and businesses access will be maintained. Sidewalks will remain open and accessible along Alexander St for the majority of the time. The City will accommodate deliveries and loading as possible.
Typical working hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm with extended hours as needed.
The City thanks residents and all road users for their patience as we complete this project.
